Default Trouble with Word

It will not let me highlight and type over anything. When I highlight and
start typing, it places the new text in front of the old instead of in place
of it.
Suggestions on what to do.

Default Trouble with Word

Select Tools Options Edit tab and turn on "Typing replaces selection".

In case of Word 2007, you will find the option he Office button Word
Options Advanced category (near the top).
