Default Conversion of newer Word files to older versions of Word

I am trying to convert MS 2000 Word file to MS Windows 98 laptop...the laptop
will not convert to the older version. Is there any way to accomplish this
conversion of newer files to an older version of Word?

Word 2000 is a Word Processor. Windows 98 is an operating system. Operating
systems will not open Word documents! Word 2000 will run under Windows 98
and the licence for Word 2000 (if it is your copy) will permit it to be
installed on a desktop and a laptop - so that would seem to be a
possibility. Otherwise you will need to buy a copy (you can buy Office 2000
cheaply from rummage sales and ebay.)
