Need two keystrokes to use " or '
My PC at work was updated for Office 2003, and ever since - I have to hit the
space bar after entering quotes to get them as intended (although they do turn into phonetic-looking letters, for example double-quote O becomes Ö and single quote O becomes Ó, vowels are most likely to change like this, like ä, á, ë, é, ï, Ã*, ü, ú ). I really do not need (or want) these characters, nor do I want to have to hit the space bar after every quote or double quote. My Language is set to Engligh(US), and I have tried all kinds of options for autocorrect, this happens in various fonts - and most annoying of all - on my Mainframe Terminal Emulation (where quotes are required to qualify filenames, etc.). So this issue might not be a "Word" issue, it could be something else that affects everything - it is quite frustrating however... Thanks. |

You probably have an international keyboard layout selected in Windows.
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306560 "How To Use the United States-International Keyboard Layout in Windows XP", except that you want to select the standard U.S. keyboard instead of the U.S.-International keyboard. I've also had the same problems as TomBert but when I tried your suggestion,
Garfield-n-odie, it still hasn't fixed the problem. Does anyone else have any suggestions?!! I find it EXTREMELY annoying!!!
