Default permanently turn off Task Pane in Word 2003

I have tried permanently turning off the Task Pane by going to Tools,
Options, and then to the View tab and unchecking the Starup Task Pane check
box. This has no effect? Any suggestions? Please send answer to

In that case, you need the Task Pane Controller add-in, which can be
downloaded from http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...owTaskPane.htm
