View edits?
I have a friend who is editing a Word document and before saving he is
changing the toolbar choice from the "final showing markup" to "final" and emailing it to me. Yet when I open the file it is always in the "final showing markup" mode with all the editing visible which I don't want. The same thing happens if I try saving that way & reopening. Is there any setting on either his machine or mine that might cause this? Neither of us have this problem with other people although he uses Word much more than I do. We are both using Word 2003. -- Thanks in advance... Bob |

Hi Bob, There's a vast difference between *having* markup in the document and *displaying* markup. Turning off the display doesn't remove the edits from the document. As long as the markup is there, the document can display it on opening. To prevent that, the sender must *remove* the markup by either accepting or rejecting each change. To remind you to do this, you should go to Tools Options Security and check the box for "Warn before printing, saving, or sending a file that contains tracked changes or comments". To remove them, first turn off Track Changes and then use the Reviewing toolbar to accept or reject the changes. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |

Thanks, that did it. But tell me, is there a way to do that from the
dropdown menus? I haven't been able to find one. The accept all changes icon was not showing on the toolbar, I had to go in and customize it. Bob "Jay Freedman" wrote in message ... If you have Word 2002 or 2003, Accept All Changes in Document is on the menu
you get when you click the arrow beside the Accept Change button on the Reviewing toolbar. If you have an earlier version, then the UI is different, and I'm not sure how this is done. -- Suzanne S. Thanks. In any case you need the toolbar.
