Default I HAVE TO SET MY PITCH TO 9.

I have to set my pitch to 9. I think it is line spacing but not sure.

It means characters per inch, and it's meaningless unless you're using a
fixed pitch typeface like Courier.

It sounds like you are doing some sort of a class assignment. Have you asked
your teacher for help?
