Default New Microsoft Office Open XML

I have Office 2003.

Microsoft has added the new Office Open XML formats to 2007 Microsoft Office
programs. Those of us who are using Office 2003/Word 2003/Excel 2003 can
download a compatibility pack for the new Office Open XML formats. What would
be the advantage of instaslling the thew XML formats?

Thank you.

It's a question of where you put the responsibility for ensuring that
documents are compatible.

If you don't install the compatibility pack, then those using Word 2007 must
either set their default save format to Word 97-2003 or remember to use that
format when sending documents to other users.

If you do install the pack, it's a one-time effort and then no one has to
remember anything.
