Default The tab key no longer increases list level indent. Why?

Tab and shift + tab no longer function to increase and decrease indent. It
just tabs the text. Any idea why?

Go to AutoCorrect Options (ToolsOptions in Word 2003/Word Options/Proofing
in Word 2007) and then to the AutoFormat As You Type tab and check the box
against the item "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces".
