I am merging 17000 letters in word and need to know how to add the barcode to
the address block in each letter.

The barcode field isn't made to work with the Address Block field. You'll need
to insert individual address fields.

The best way to go about building the barcode is to set up an ENVELOPE with all
the information you need for the address, and activate the checkbox for the
barcode. Once you're sure everything is good, COPY the entire address, plus the
barcode, to the mail merge letter.
