Default Word 2007: Text box vertical alignment

I'm in Word 2007 and have created a couple of text boxes for a specific
layout that I'm working with. I'd like to have the text IN those boxes
aligned to the BOTTOM of the box instead of the default top. But the
Vertical Alignment options under the Text Box tab of the Format AutoShape
menu are all greyed out.

Does anyone know how I can bottom-align this text??

Thanks.

Click the borders of the text box; with the pointer over one of the borders
and shaped like a 4-headed arrow with an adjacent left pointing arrow, right
click
Click Format Text Box to display the Format Text Box dialog box
Click the Text Box tab
Under Vertical Alignment, click Bottom
Click OK

You can use the alignment command buttons in the Paragraph group on the Home
tab to center, right align, etc. the text within each text box

Thanks for the idea, but this is step-by-step exactly what I said I had tried
and does not work. Are there are other ideas? Or does someone know WHY this
isn't working?

Default Word 2007: Text box vertical alignment

hi Josh,

Is the file saved as a .DOC or a .DOCX? Word 97-2003 (.doc) versions did not have the vertical align in text box features.

If you use Office Button=Convert, or, if you want to save the .doc version rather than just convert it to a .docx use
Office Button=Save As=Word Document
you should be able to use that feature.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. I found a solution!
You have to turn on Compatibility Mode.

Click the Office Button
Click the Options Button
Click Advanced Options in the left frame
Scroll down the right frame until the end of the page
Set Compatibility mode for: the current document or all new documents
Choose MS Word 2007 in the combo box (to enable all new features in Word 2007)

Im French so the caption of buttons may not be exactly the same, sorry for
my poor translation.

Hi Aloys,

The tranlation was well done

Are you saving the documents as .docX or as .doc? (Is ther a 'convert' choice under Office button when the file is open?).

The prior versions of Word didn't support autoshape vertical alignment, and saving as a (97-2003) .doc file will disable the
vertical
alignment feature for a text box. You can insert a one cell table in the textbox and vertically center in the table cell.

Changing the compatibility setting to Word 2007 while editing a Word 2003 document will turn on access to several of the features
while editing but if you close and reopen the document the choices in right-click,
Format Textbox for vertical centering will likely be turned off again and if you resave as a 97-2003 Word document, when next
reopened the text alignment could be back at the top of the text box.
