Default Table of Contents and Heading Levels

Greetings,
I am using MS Word 2007 and I am having a problem with the table of contents
(TOC). I will be more specific:
When I create the TOC the default setting for €śShow Levels€ť (the number of
heading levels you wish to show in the TOC) is three (3). Because I need
more levels I have changed it to seven (7). This works fine, until I re-open
the document after I close down MS Word, because the €śShow Levels€ť setting is
back to the default setting of three (3). This is very frustrating because I
then have to go back in and create another table. How can change the €śShow
Levels€ť setting and make sure that it remains?

Respectfully,
JD

Default Table of Contents and Heading Levels

Edit the TOC field directly. Press Alt+F9 to display the field code and
change the figures after the \o switch from 1-3 to 1-7.

I have the same problem with Word 2003. I also am trying to change the TOC
font and even though I change it via the menus, the TOC font never changes.

To add to what Suzanne has said, if you want to reuse a particular TOC, you
can save it to the TOC gallery. Just select a TOC that you have already
created and use References tab | Table of Contents | Save Selection to Table
of Contents Gallery.

How are you changing the styles, exactly? You should modify each of them via
the Modify Style dialog box. Note that you must use the "Add to template"
option if you want to transfer a modified style to the attached template.
