Page-break-before inside a table doesn't work
I have a table in Word 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1). Row 1 is repeated as a
header row and forms a single column; subsequent rows present two columns. Up to and including row 9, the page-break-before setting works as expected up to and including the very last paragraph. It is still operative any further paragraphs added thereafter. However in row 10 - and for the rest of the document - that attribute becomes ineffective. This is also the case for text in a new row inserted below row 9 (Insert/Rows Below) or before row 10 (Insert/Rows Above). Both rows have the Allow-row-to-break-across-pages attribute set. Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Thanks. |

Page-break-before inside a table doesn't work
I've since upgraded to Word 2003 (11.6568.6568) SP2 and am basically
seeing the same thing. Creating a new document containing only a 2-column table, it appears that page-break-before is only effective for the first paragraph for rows 2 onward in column 1 only. Is this the intended mode of operation ??? |

"Page break before" cannot be applied to single paragraphs inside a table
cell (if that's what you are trying to do). Instead, it should be applied an entire table row in which case it will force that row to start a new page. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP " wrote: I've since upgraded to Word 2003 (11.6568.6568) SP2 and am basically seeing the same thing. Ordinarily, though, formatting of that type ("Page break before," "Keep with
next") applied to a single paragraph in a row *will* apply to the entire row, which is why it's so difficult to troubleshoot KWN issues in tables: you have to examine every paragraph in every cell in the problem row. -- Suzanne S. Page-break-before inside a table doesn't work
Thanks, the motivation behind the original post was that - for
whatever reason - Page-Break-Before was indeed working as described (I swear) for paragraphs in column TWO up to and including row 9. Then it decided not to thereafter. I went searching for the intended mode of operation for this control, the online Help, the MSKB and even Technet was no help. If the behaviour in post #2 is indeed intended, then thanks for the clarification. |

That I haven't noticed. However, it seems just as annoying as what I *have*
noticed: When you promote a heading in a table cell, it affects all the cells of a row--applying (say) Heading 1 to the whole row. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Suzanne S. Page-break-before inside a table doesn't work
That seems to apply only if you use the Promote shortcut; applying the
heading directly (from the Styles list) or using, say, Ctrl+Alt+1 for Heading 1 doesn't have this effect. -- Suzanne S. Yes, you're right. I should have stated that explicitly.

I assumed it from your wording--was just clarifying. Since I use
Promote/Demote fairly rarely (and virtually never in a table), I hadn't run across this. -- Suzanne S.
