Default Numbers displayed at top and sides of a document

The "numbers" displayed at the top and sides of a Word document do not
change, regardless of the measurement units setting in tools/options/general.
In other words, if I change from inches to points to centimeters, the
numbers on the screen don't change. The numbers change with every other
version of Word that I am using on other PCs. This is Word 2003. I have
tried removing and reinstalling Word with no success.

Any ideas?
