List of Tables using Styles instead of captions
I need to generate a list of tables (and figures) in a document where the
table titles include the complete document section number (which is complex: 3.2.P.3.2-1, where "-1" is the actual table number within that section). Because of this I couldn't use captions to number the tables. I have used the same style for all the tables but when I go to generate the list of tables I get the following error message, "Error, No table of contents entries found." The path I followed (Word 2003) is InsertReferenceIndex & TablesTable of Figures, Tables from the Caption Label menu; OptionsStyle is checked; selected the proper style; Table entry fields unchecked; Table identifier: defaults to F. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? -- LAC |

List of Tables using Styles instead of captions
I managed to get the list of tables to work but I'm not sure why. The
original style was called "Style Table Title, left..." This style was automatically generated when I modified the style, "Table Title" so that it was formatted the way I wanted. When I went to the style "Table Title" and tried to change the style I got a circular argument error since "Style Table title" was based on "Table Title". Once I switched the "based on" in "Style Table title" to none, I was able to reformat "Table Title" and generate the List of Tables. My question is why does word make new styles with "style" in front of it when you modify an existing style? I apologize for the length of this posting but this was very quirky. -- LAC "LAC" wrote: I need to generate a list of tables (and figures) in a document where the table titles include the complete document section number (which is complex: 3.2.P.3.2-1, where "-1" is the actual table number within that section). How did you change the style(s)? Usually when the Styles and Formatting pane
shows "strange" entries, you haven't really modified the style but just added direct formatting (and that formatting is being displayed as a separate entry in the Styles and Formatting pane because "Keep track of formatting" is enabled in the Options dialog box). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "LAC" wrote in message ...
