Default Why do Fonts appear in Font folder but not in drop down menu

I installed MS Office 2003 Pro on the new machine, including Publisher, and
yet many of the fonts that show as in the Fonts folder are not available from
the drop down menu while I am working with the Document. What gives?

Is this only in Word, and do you have only a few fonts in the list? If
so, make sure you have a default printer selected in Windows, and that
it isn't the Generic Text printer. See
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NoFonts.htm.
