Default how to convert text when format not known

I have files on an old floppy disc from a Brother word processor. Can I
retrieve and convert these files for use in word 2003? I need those files
but have no idea how to get them off the floppy.

Did you use Google to see if there's any sort of a converter available?

Many of the dedicated word processors used a proprietary file format. I
would think your best bet is to check the Brother support site, email as
much detail as you can offer.

I suspect the likely problem here will be that the disc itself is
incompatible with Windows (let alone Word) and thus your PC will not be able
to read it. If this is the case you will need professional assistance to
extract the data to a PC compatible disc before you even have a chance of
reading it. If you cannot convert the files (Brother may be able to help)
then provided you still have the Brother machine, you may have to use it to
print the files then use a scanner and OCR to transfer the contents to the
PC.

I would think that the contents of the disc would have to be pretty valuable
to go to that amount of trouble.
