Default Word Documents Blank

When I open my word documents, the text does not show on the screen. I can
see the page, the rulers, and the menus, but no text. However, if I print the
document or PDF the document, the text appears. I've tried to change "Views"
and zoom, but to no avail. I've been using Word for over 15 years, but I've
never seen it do this and I can't seem to find any answers on the internet.
Anyone else every experience this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

If you switch to Print Preview, then can you see the contents of the
documents?

But all documents print correctly? This is certainly odd.

If you start Word in Safe mode, then does it work? Hold Ctrl while starting
the application; when asked, confirm that you want to start in Safe mode.

Hmmm. I can't think of anything that might cause such a problem, but I would
be tempted to checkout the settings of and/or update the display adapter
driver.
Does the text appear, even momentarily, when you scroll through the
document?

Nothing appears but the blank white page. It is so odd. I've run all of my
virus updates, wondering if I've picked up something.
