Default Bad Margins when opening Word 03 in 07

*Trying to open up an Word 03 document in 07 but the margins/formatting are
altered.

How do you set the page margins permanently so I can open up multiple
existing Word 2003 file without having to format each individual document to
fit properly on the page?

These documents opened up fine in 2003 but when we upgraded to 2007 all of
the margins were different.

Editing the normal.dot files only kept the settings for new documents but
what I need is to keep the settings when opening existing documents. Is there
a way to do this?

There is no reason why the margins of existing documents would change when
opened in Word 2007. In what way are they being altered?

It Doesn't fit on the page correctly. It has extra white space at the top,
different left/right margins than what they were set as.

The document is a report of receipts formatted/ lined up sort of like
columns and should be in excel but this is what we have to work with

Perhaps a policy in which I have no control is the cause. I work in tech
support.

A change in printer driver could cause a change in text flow (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm), but, even if the
document contains tables, there is no way that it should be reformatted just
on being opened. If the document is based on Normal.dot and Word 2007 is
applying Normal.dotm, and if "Automatically update document styles" is
enabled, that *might* be an explanation, but that's still pretty farfetched.

Have you confirmed that the margins are actually set differently, or do they
just appear different? Displaying text boundaries would be helpful for
determing whether the margins have actually changed. Does the document
contain markup? If so, what you're seeing is the Document Showing Markup,
which may very well appear different.
