name, including the file name extension, cannot exceed 255 characters. €¢ PowerPoint 2002: The total length of both the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 256 characters. €¢ Access 2002: The total length of both the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 249 characters. €¢ Excel 2002: The total length of both the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 218 characters. €¢ Outlook 2002: The total length of both the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 255 characters. €¢ Word 2000: The total length of the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 254 characters. €¢ PowerPoint 2000: The total length of the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 258 characters. €¢ Access 2000: The total length of the path and the file name, including file name extension cannot exceed 258 characters. €¢ Excel 2000: The total length of the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 218 characters. €¢ Outlook 2000: The total length of the path and the file name, including file name extension, cannot exceed 258 characters. That depends on the operating system, the file system, and the program accessing these files. Usually, the limit is 255 characters for a filename, 260 for a full path. What are the maximum numbers of characters you can use to name a file??! Depends on the operating system you're using. Best place to get this information is to inquire in a group specific to that operating system.
