Hello,

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find any information in
past posts or on the internet.

I uses Microsoft XP, home and for some obscure reason, as my subject says,
my header will not delete. It somehow gained the page number and is
highlighted in grey. Other text which I've typed in can be deleted but I
cannot even permanently alter the grey highlighted area. When I select the
text the highlighted area becomes black. I think that's all I know about the
situation, hopefully it's enough.

The gray area is a PAGE field. You should be able to select and delete it,
but if it was inserted using Insert | Page Numbers, it will be in a frame,
and you need to delete that as well. See
