Default Word crashes on opening

Using Word 2000 on XP, all updates for Office and XP are installed.
Yesterday one particular (large) document of 38 pages text (no tables or
images) caused Word to crash twice. Since the second time, I have been
unable to open Word again (it crashes after the opening 'registration-style'
window opens) and sending an error report to MS results in zilch. I've
tried re-installing Word from the CD but to no avail. Virus scans are
negative. Any other ideas?

Thanks, Stefan - it was a corrupt Normal template. Deleting it has cured the
problem.

Default Word crashes on opening

This is the first (and hopefully last!) time I will be opn this blog for an
MS Word 2000 problem (but since this software is sooo old , you'll probeably
see me again)
This was VERY helkpful!!!!!!!! My problem was solved immediately.
I thought I had to buy new Office software. Plus, I was scared I actually
had to understand the parts after your first "RUN" paragraph. But I didn't.
And the problem was solved.
Great explanation. Thatnks for being there when all of us non-tech savvy
people need assistance!
