Inserting photographs into a form created with a table
I'm not sure if this question should be in the graphics section or this
tables section. I'll start here first. I'm using Win98 SE and have Word 2000. I'm creating a form using a table to get things lined up nicely. I want it to take up just one page. It will have drop down lists and the other mixed types of fields common in a form. This form will be filled out on the computer, as opposed to printing it out to be filled in by hand. The form will take up aprox. 2/3 to 3/4 of the height of the page. I will set the page margains to .5 in left and right so there is 7.5 of useable width on the page. Top margain will be .5 inches and the bottom will be .55 inch. This is the maximum I can set the bottom margain with my printer. At the very bottom of the page I want to position 2 jpeg photos side by side that will be sized to 3.5 inches X 2.63 inches. This means there would be a 1/2 inch space between them on the page. I would then like to add a caption below each photo. The jpegs will be compressed so they don't take up much room. I've had limited use of graphics in word. I can go to the format graphic page and experiment with the different types of layouts, but I can't get it to do what I want. I was just using a plain Word document and not a form when I was experimenting. This completed form will then be sent via email to clients. I'll attach the 2 photos to the email in the regular fashion, but I also wanted the client to see them on the report I send as well. Your help is very much appreciated |

Hi ?B?RkFQ?=,
I'm not certain exactly what your question is, but I do see some possible obstacles for the approach you describe, so I'll touch on those and hope I hit at least some of the issues 1. If you protect a document as a form, most of the graphics tools will be out of commission. 2. You CAN still insert a graphic, from a file, into a unprotected section and do some basic things with it if it's been inserted inline with the text. As I recall, this is the format Word 2000 will choose by default. 3. You can't really tell Word to insert a picture with a set height and width. You can control ONE of these two dimensions by inserting it into a table cell or a frame (from the Forms toolbar) with a set height or width (whichever is critical); the other dimension will resize proportionately. Thanks for your reply Cindy. I originally posted the question on April 12,
with no responses. Undaunted, I then proceeded to learn by experimentation. I did find that I couldn't play with images in a protected form, but since the protection was just for me only, I just unprotected it and protected it again. Using Irfanviiew, I resized/resampled my images to 640 x 480 and then inserted them into the cell I created in the form. It was too big, so I double clicked the image to get to the edit picture area. I then was able to resize it to 2 in wide by 1.5 in. high, which is what I wanted to do. It's not real smooth, but it works. Again, thank you for your reply. I noticed several requests over the last month or so for a method of
inserting a picture into a protected form. I've prepared a sample template with the macro code required to do it. You can download it from http://jay-freedman.info/form_picture.zip. If you have any questions about it, please post here or email me at the address in the template. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org On Mon, 25 Apr 2005 13:56:11 +0200, Cindy M -WordMVP- wrote: Hi ?B?RkFQ?=, I'm not certain exactly what your question is, but I do see some possible obstacles for the approach you describe, so I'll touch on those and hope I hit at least some of the issues 1.
