I am trying to use the find and replace function to delete a series of
periods. The closest I am able to come is to turn them all into space, which doesnt actually help me out much. Here is what I have: Alabama . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 70 83 131 157 174 198 324 374 1,884 2,307 1,532 1,908 Alaska . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 21 22 20 22 393 364 377 368 3,228 3,640 3,324 3,624 Arizona . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 43 57 119 149 128 144 358 378 2,126 2,424 2,185 2,694 Arkansas. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 39 47 71 84 163 192 299 348 1,724 2,261 1,388 1,754 Etc.. Here is what I want to get: Alabama 70 83 131 157 174 198 324 374 1,884 2,307 1,532 1,908 Alaska 21 22 20 22 393 364 377 368 3,228 3,640 3,324 3,624 Arizona 43 57 119 149 128 144 358 378 2,126 2,424 2,185 2,694 Arkansas 39 47 71 84 163 192 299 348 1,724 2,261 1,388 1,754 Etc. What do you want to replace them with?

find, replace, delete
I want to replace them with nothing, but when I simply leave it blank it
replaces each one with a space. What I am hoping is that someone knows a special function code for delete in find and replace. One that is similar to ^m being used for manual page break, but for delete instead. find, replace, delete
I just used your example and did what you requested.
I highlighted everything between the end of the state name and the first number and copied that to the clipboard. Edit - Replace. Paste the text in the clipboard in the find space and in the replace space you can either type ^w or just hit the space bar once. It replaced all but the last one because it has a different number of periods. You can either manually edit that or do another find and replace with that text. (BTW - someone needs to learn how to use a dotted leader.) -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "Ben" wrote in message ...
