Default template or not?

Not being a microsoft person, I'm not sure how to phrase this question.
What do you call it when you open up a word document that allows you to
fill in fields in a form? Is this a template? If so, how do you create
one from an existing document? I have a lot of manual forms that I fill
out at work and would rather type all the information into a word
document and print it out. How do I do this? I think you can tab
through the editable areas too, which I like...

It is not a template. A template is a starter document saved as a template
using File Save As, often with other resources. It can be a starter
document for what you want, though. If you are using Word, you need to learn
about templates. http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at

Hope this helps,
