Using Word 2003, is there a way to get a count of the number of heading
styles used in a long and complex formatted document? Ideally, I would like
to get the number of times a Heading 1 style is used, Heading 2, etc. and
the total number of styled paragraphs.

TIA.

Hi

Every paragraph has a paragraph style. So the number of 'styled paragraphs'
equals the number of paragraphs in the document. And you can get that at
File Properties on the Statistics tab.

To see the number of paragraphs with (eg) Heading 1 style attached, at Tools
Options Edit tick the "Keep track of formatting" box. Then, Format

Styles and Formatting. In the Styles and Formatting task pane, right-click a
style to read how often it is used.

By the way, you can get quite a bit of other information at Help About
Microsoft Word System Information. Wait, then double-click "Office 2003
Applications" and then "Microsoft Office Word 2003".

Hope this helps.
