Default accidently closed out document

I was working on a document and did not save it. However, when I opened a new
word document it says Document2. Does this mean doucment1 is saved somewhere
with my work on it? maybe in a tmep file? help please it is for school.

No, if you did not save it, it is not saved anywhere. Word always increments
the document numbers as long as it's open.
