I need to create an If field code with these conditions. If mergefield
attorney is blank then insert mergefield claimant. I tried {IF {mergefield
attorney} = "" {mergefield claimant} } and this did not work. Thank you for
any suggestions.

Did you use Ctrl+F9 to insert each pair of field delimiters?

Are you sure that the field is empty and does not contain eg a space.
