spellcheck doesn't work despite being turned on
Word 2003 - even though the spellchecker is tunred on, it doesn't generate
red wavy lines, nor does it work when asked to check the whole document even though it is heaving with typos . |

Probably a "no proofing" issue. See

Styles can have the Do Not Check Spelling or Grammar option set (in the Language dialog).
