I was in the middle of typing a Word document, I think I accidentally hit
some keys and the cursor size shrunk (normal is a horizontal thin line about
1 cm long, but now my cursor is only 1/2 cm long and thicker). I hope someone
can tell me how to re-set it to its normal size.

Change your Zoom setting to 500% and then back to 100%.

Switch to 500% Zoom and back.
