Default Do I lose macros and auto text when upgrading to Office 2003?

I have a customer that uses a lot of macros and auto text. When upgrading to
Office SBE 2003, will they still be able to use their macros and auto text?

Yes. By design, if the normal.dot template (the default location for storing
those items) already exists, it won't be replaced. The 2003 version will
just use it. This is true for an upgrade from any version back to Word 97.
Upgrades from Word 95 or earlier are possible, but problems are more likely
because the earlier versions used a different programming language for
macros, and the conversion is difficult.

Note that it would be a good idea to back up that file and others
(http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/FilesToBackup.htm), especially just
before the upgrade but also on a regular schedule.

Yes, both are stored in templates and an upgrade will preserve them. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.

The only minor proviso to add to the others' comments is that sometimes
macro code doesn't run quite as predictably in later versions, so an odd
macro may have to be revised, but otherwise an upgrade should be fairly
painless. Do however see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/FilesToBackup.htm
