Default removing numbers from list that sudeenly appeared

I am creating a list of email names and suddenly the names are numbered.
I want to sort the list but cannot.

The numbers likely come from Tools - AutoCorrect Options - AutoFormat as you
type - Automatic Numbered Lists.

To sort a list in Word, even if it's not in a table, select what you want to
sort and choose Table - Sort.
