Default problems with header/footer and footnotes

Document was converted from WordPerfect to Word 2003. I have created
several sections in my document which are related with specific
headers/footers. But inside the sections I would like not to display
headers and footers in some pages. I have read all the help files that
microsoft offers, but there is no slution for that. I can do this by
creating a new section in the page where I would like to remove these
headers/footers, but it messes my footnotes up - I have 3 different
articles (and sections as well) in document and footnotes for article
should start from the 1. But if I create some new section inside this 3
sections, word thinks, that after that it should start footnote
numbering from 1, but I would like to continue (but start with 1 in the
next article). Desperate...
