Default section number appearing in TOC with page numbers

we have generated a TOC and from sections 1-7, the section number appears,
then a dash, then the page number - which is not the way we want it to
appear. Then from section 8 onwards, in the TOC, only the page number is
displayed. This is what we want for the entire TOC.
How do we get rid of the section number from the earlier part of the TOC
(sections 1-7)??
We are using MS Word version 2003, SP2.

This is controlled under Insert/Page Numbers/Format. Make sure there is no
check mark beside Include Chapter Number. You will probably have to go to
each section that displays the section number in the ToC and change this
setting.

Note that this will change how the page numbers display in both the ToC as
well as in the headers or footers.

Thank you Colleen for taking the time to reply. This fixed our problem.
