Thumbs up Answer: How do I remove pictures from a table of contents in Word ?

To remove pictures from a table of contents in Word, you can follow these steps:
  1. First, select the table of contents in your document by clicking anywhere within it.
  2. Next, go to the "References" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on the "Table of Contents" button, and then select "Custom Table of Contents" from the drop-down menu.
  4. In the "Table of Contents" dialog box that appears, click on the "Options" button.
  5. In the "Table of Contents Options" dialog box, you will see a list of available styles. Select the style that you are using for your table of contents (e.g. "Heading 1").
  6. Uncheck the box next to "Table entry fields" and "Picture entry fields".
  7. Click "OK" to close the "Table of Contents Options" dialog box.
  8. Click "OK" again to close the "Table of Contents" dialog box.

To prevent pictures and tables from being included in your table of contents in the future, you can follow these steps:
  1. Select the picture or table that you want to exclude from the table of contents.
  2. Right-click on the selection and choose "Paragraph" from the context menu.
  3. In the "Paragraph" dialog box, go to the "Line and Page Breaks" tab.
  4. Check the box next to "Keep with next".
  5. Click "OK" to close the "Paragraph" dialog box.

The extra material is formatted with the same style as the headings. The TOC
just picks up whatever has that style.

Go back into the document, select the stuff that shouldn't be in the TOC,
and format it with a non-heading style. Then click in the TOC and update it.
