Whenever I spell check Bia comes up and asks me if I mean BIA, which I don't,
and doesn't give me options to add it to the custom dictionary. I've added
it to the custom dictionary and it still doesn't skip over it.

Which version of Word and what is the language parameter assigned to the
word?
There is no problem adding Bia to the custom dictionary in a UK English
version of Word 2003.
