Default How do I overtype a highlighted section?

Starting yesterday in MS Word I am unable to type over a section I've
highlighted, and have my new text replace the highlighted text. Instead, the
new text is inserted before the highlighted text.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit | check the "Typing
replaces selection" box | OK.
