If you're searching for the text "car picture," Word should be finding it,
and this should work. Do you have "Use wildcards" checked?

What you might try is:

(car) (*) (picture)

\3 \2 \1

I would not have thought that this would not work if there is a line break
or paragraph break between the words, but it does seem to.
