Default lost text

When I make a mistake on a document, I lose text when tring ti correct it.
The correction corvers up the next letter. How do I fix this

Press the Insert button (again, since that's how you got into Overtype
mode in the first place).

In Word 2003 and earlier, the letters OVR in the status bar at the
bottom of the Word window will be black when you're in Overtype mode
and gray when you're in Insert mode. You can also toggle modes by
double-clicking those letters.

In Word 2007, you can right-click the status bar and choose to show or
hide the Overtype indicator.
