Default Word and Word Pad Questions

I had to do a partial resinstall of W98. All my Word files became WordPad files
with a new icon. I reassociated DOC files with winword and changed the icons to
the standard blue W icon but now none of the files will open. When I right
click and check properties they all show as WordPad documents instead of the
orignal Word docs. Is there any way to change them all back to Word docs? If
not, how do I open them up? Steve Ignots
