Default How do u improve Word '07 to recognise shortcuts typed fast?

For most times when i use shortcuts on Word 2007 it takes too long for it to
respond to my keystrokes and i dont get to where i want... my speed of typing
shortcuts hasnt changed and i didnt have any problems in previous versions of
word. Is there a way to increase Word 2007's speed of recognition of
shortcuts?

Bump up your computer's speed - try adding RAM. (Just guessing here?)

mmmm.... ok - i never thought of that. However, if this is the cause it would
be a bit suprising, as i bought a brand new, above-average price/quality
laptop just 2 weeks ago

Cheers for your thought though

How much RAM came with it? "Brand new, above average cost" doesn't mean
anything these days. It could have all kinds of "stuff" that raise the price
but don't do anything to help the system. We just bought a laptop two weeks
ago. Low price but speedy little critter - came with 2 GB of RAM.

Unfortunately, most systems are configured with a "minimal" amount of RAM -
probably because it doesn't serve well as an advertising gimmick for the
average user Most people base their decision on the "sizzle" more than the
"steak". Especially if that nifty new system is running Windows Vista you'll
need *at least* 1.5-2 GB in order for it to hum along briskly... More if you
can afford it.

Hi JoAnn,
I dont run many programs at the same time and still have the problem when i
only have excel open. It's weird... i consciously have to slow down my
shortcut typing by about 4-5 times so i can get it working properly. I'm also
running Vista if that helps

Hi Paul

For what it's worth, I have the same problem. I can type faster than Word
2007 can think. From what I can see, the designers put in a conscious delay
into the way the ribbon works. That is you press Alt, then waaaaaaiiiiit,
and then the letters on the ribbon appear. I assume that the same delay
prevents keyboard shortcuts from working quickly. It's been like that for me
since the first Beta of Office 2007 and I know no way to change it.

Default How do u improve Word '07 to recognise shortcuts typed fast?

For what it's worth, I'm running Word 2003 and 2007 side by side, and I
don't see any difference in speed of keyboard response when typing, or when
typing shortcuts.

This is a medium speed Core2Duo with 4 GB of ram (but since I'm using 32-bit
Vista, only about 3.2GB of my ram is actually being used).

I also have a notebook that runs Windows XP. It's a slower computer, and has
just 1GB of RAM. But, I don't see any keyboard speed differences between
Word 2003 and 2007 on it, either. And, when I'm working in Word, I hardly
ever use the mouse, so I would definitely notice.

Note that Word was noticeably slower until I disabled an Adobe Acrobat
Add-in. However, the add-in was slowing Word 2003 and 2007 both down.

Just for kicks... try starting Word up in Safe mode (hold down Ctrl as Word
is starting, and say Yes to starting in Safe mode). Working in safe mode, is
Word 2007 still as slow as it was, or does it respond more quickly? If it
responds more quickly, then there's a chance that an add-in is slowing
things down.
