Default Highlighted text won't delete when I start typing

When I want to replace text in a Word document, I highlight the text and
start typing to replace it. For some reason that function stopped working.
Does anyone have any idea how to turn it back on again? Now I have to
highlight the text, hit "delete" and then I can start typing again.

For 2003 - Tools | Options | Edit tab and place a checkmark in Typing
replaces selection.

In Word 2007, click on Office Button | Word Options | Advanced |
check the "Typing replaces selected text" box | OK.

In Word 2003 or earlier, click on Tools | Options | Edit tab |
check the "Typing replaces selection" box | OK.

Word 2003: In Tools | Options, select the "Typing replaces selection."

In Word 2007, the corresponding option is found on the Advanced tab of the
Word Options dialog box (under "Editing options").
