Default how do i add new text without writing over existing text?

When I try and amend text i am writing over existing text. I want to be able
to add new text without deleting what is currently there.

Default how do i add new text without writing over existing text?

Press the Insert key or double-click the OVR that appears on the Status Bar
when you are in Overtype mode.
