Default cross reference field with space and colored text

Hi. I am using Word 2003.

I have a form field in a document and have the text color set to white. I
also have a cross reference (in a text box) to that field, and the text color
is set to black. Please note that the text entered into the form field is
more than one word, so there are spaces.

Here's the problem: When the field is populated, the cross reference
displays the first word in black. However, everything after the space seems
to pick up the properties of the form field (white text), not of the cross
reference (black text).

Is there a workaround to this? Besides the obvious--getting rid of the text
box?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hilary

Hi Hilary,

I'm not sure this will work, but it's worth a try...

Display the field code of the cross reference (right-click, Toggle Field
Codes). At the end, just before the right brace, enter

\* CHARFORMAT

If there is already a \* MERGEFORMAT there, remove it. Make sure the font of
the REF keyword is set to black. Press F9 to update the field.
