Buying Word is Confusing - Some Help Please
The current version of Office is 2003, but Office 2007 will be released this
year. Office XP contains Word 2002, which is also included in Works Suite (not Works). Yes, it's cheaper to get it as part of Works Suite than freestanding; who knows why? "Win32" means you need a 32-bit version of Windows; for other system requirements, search for "system requirements" for whatever version you are buying (Word 2003 will not run on anything but Windows 2000 and Windows XP). "Eng" means English; the UI (commands, toolbars, menus, etc.) will be in English, and it will contain proofing tools for English, French, and Spanish. "ACAD," I would guess means it's an academic version; this means that it is licensed to be sold only to college students and teachers. I have no idea what "6.0" means; it looks like a version number, but Office 2003 is Office 11. -- Suzanne S. Apparently Word 2002 costs more than Works that contains it. Can somebody tell me what all the abbreviations in this mean? Microsoft Office 2003 Win32 Eng ACAD-6.0 Is it really true that 2003 is the latest version of Word? What do Win32 (It will run on a modern computer?) Eng (English edition?) ACAD (Advice and Counselling on Alcohol and Drugs? I Googled it.) 6.0 (sixth revision of the 2003 version?) say about this item? Do any of them suggest this package is not appropriate for an ordinary user? jim |

Buying Word is Confusing - Some Help Please
I thought Office was being delayed until first quarter of next year along
with Windows Vista? Online reports indicate that retail and OEM customers will get Office 2007 and Vista in early 2007. Business customers with volume licenses -- who apparently comprise the majority of the customer base -- will reportedly get them in late 2006. e.g. http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1942069,00.asp http://news.com.com/2100-1012_3-6053504.html -- Regards John Waller |
