Default Can't left click and highlight in Word 2007 document

I lost some mouse function in Word 2007. I can open a document but cannot
place cursor anywhere. I can move the "I" bar around but when I left click
nothing happens. Can't right click in a document either. All functions of
mouse work in all other applications. Also, I can't click and navigate
around in "Word Options" dialog box or "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" pull
down boxes either. Re-starting Word does not help and Re-booting computer
does not help either. I'm running Vista business on Dell workstation. Using
Microsoft Natural Laser Mouse 6000. Been using Word 2007 for some time with
no problem until now. Anybody have any ideas.

Are all the features under the tabs grayed out as well?

No they are not. Word crashes and re-starts quite often when I try to close
the application. Also seems to run slow and I get "not responding" messages
briefly quite often.

I am getting exactly the same thing out of my Word 2007 on Vista. I have yet
to see a fix and I'm at a loss on what to do. Office had been working find
for quite some time and this has appeared suddenly.

I am also having this issue even after rebuilding my computer from scratch. I
think it may be a conflict with one of the Windows updates.

Close Word and run regedit, find the Word Data key
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\versi on number\Word\Data), and
delete it. Word will build a new key upon startup.
