Default How do I combine 35 separate Word documents into one

I have 35 chapters and alltogether about 500 pages. But each chapter is a
separate Word Document and unfortunately I formatted every chapter manually.
Now, I want to combine them into a book, that is, one document with an
index. So iwhen I click on chapter 5 for example, chapter 5 opens. First of
all, is there a recommended way to combine all these into one, apart from
copying and pasting.
