Missing letter
Okay, "Typing replaces selection" is ON. When I type after selection, Word would ignore my first keystroke (first letter) so that the SECOND letter I type replaces the selection!! This seems to occur at random, i.e., sometimes it behaves as expected (first keystroke starts replacing the selection). I run Mac OSX office 2011.
