Default merge field numbering/decimal place problem

I am using word 03 and works database... I am trying to merge fields which I
have so far done so successfully but i have one part in the database that has
1.039 and after i merge it into word it appears as 1.038999999999999 and i am
confused on how to correct this problem. There are not many commands in the
database program but i did change the number of decimal places from default 2
to 3 spaces.
If anyone could help i'd appreciate it alot.
