Default Drop down lists in Word 2000

Hi. I will admit to being just a basic user of Word. I now need to get a
little bit more involved. I need to create some forms that I will send to
the involved people via email. I am in the process of creating a home
inspection form. I want to use some drop down lists that give a few choices
to choose from.

The help system seems to be fairly straightforward. I am in the process of
creating a new template. I inserted a drop down list form where I wanted it
to be and then put in the various choices. When I hit OK, all I get is a
gray box with the first choice in it, which is OK, but there is no down arrow
from which to make a different choice if the default choice isn't correct.

Can anyone tell me what I should do to get the drop down list box to appear?

Thanks very much for your help.
