Default Word 2003 open files list is out of alphabetic order

How do I get the files back in alphabetic order when I go to open a file and
the drop down list of files is in reverse order. when I go to Windows
Explorer the files are all listed correctly in alphabetic order from a-z not
z-a

In the Open dialog box, right-click on a blank area of the file name list,
and left-click on Arrange Icons By | Name.
